Lake Butler - is one of the most scenic lakes in Central Florida, the Butler Chain of Lakes is great for boating, fishing for trophy Largemouth Bass and all watersports activities. Also known as the Windermere Chain, there are eleven interconnected lakes that cover an area of 4,720 acres. The chain includes Lake Butler, Lake Down, Wauseon Bay, Lake Louise, Lake Isleworth, Lake Chase, Lake Pocket, Lake Tibet, Lake Sheen, and Fish Lake. Lake Butler, the largest lake out of the chain, is commonly referred to as “Bird Island” since it is home to a bird sanctuary. This lake is a popular meeting ground for boaters and friends since it has a resort-like setting. The second largest lake is Lake Tibet. The Bay Hill marina is located here and offers a place to gas up while on the lake. Some of the popular communities include Lake Butler Sound, Isle of Osprey, Isleworth, Keene’s Pointe, Windermere, Tibet Pointe, Chaine Du Lac, and Emerson Pointe. The town of Windermere is a charming community with a mixture of old and new homes, original sand roads that wind through the town, and is situated between Lake Butler and Lake Down. Windermere tries to focus on preserving the town’s natural state and strong community atmosphere instead of growth. The Butler Chain of Lakes has a top quality school district and is within proximity to downtown Orlando. The local schools include Windermere Elementary School, Gotha Middle School, Chain of Lakes Middle School, Olympia High School, and Windermere Preparatory School.
Activities - Not only are there multiple water activities to partake in on the Butler Chain of Lakes, there are plenty of things to do on the land side. If you have the opportunity to visit the Windermere Country Club, take the entire family. The Country Club offers your entire family a casual yet private get-away for golf, tennis, swimming and social events. The 18-hole championship golf course is beautiful with rolling fairways and three sets of tee-boxes for a fun, but challenging golfing experience. If you need to cool down, visit one of the eleven lakes with 4,720 acres to play on. One can enjoy anything from fishing to wake boarding to anchoring near “Bird Island” for bird watching. The bird sanctuary is over 32 acres of preserved wildlife sanctuary. This is located at Lake Butler Sound which also includes two English Gardens and a large lakeside gazebo.
Fishing - This chain of lakes is primarily known for its excellent largemouth bass fishing. Pay attention to the bottom contours of the lake’s offshore structure where 4-5 pound bass are commonly produced. Also, live shiners free-lined over grass edges, humps, ledges and drop-offs adjacent to spawning flats is another method to consistently catch quality bass in the winter and spring months.
